If you are on long term medication it may be necessary for you to renew your prescription. Request repeat prescriptions via this website, in writing, by fax or in person using the repeat prescription slip with the drugs requested ticked appropriately.

You are usually prescribed two months’ supply of drugs and you are allowed a total of three repeats before you need to see the doctor to discuss whether you should continue with the medication. This is for your own safety and to avoid you taking too many and unnecessary drugs. Please allow up to 48 hours for repeat prescriptions. Please also see our separate leaflets on these topics.

Repeat Prescriptions

In recent years community pharmacies have increasingly requested repeat prescriptions on patients’ behalf yet they are not always precisely aware what the patient has and has not run out of, or whether they are still regularly taking all the medicines prescribed, and this can generate waste eg NICE states that between a third and a half of medicines that are prescribed for long-term conditions are not used as recommended.

We have been asked, in conjunction with our patients and local pharmacies, to review our repeat prescribing system and to encourage patients or their carer to request their own repeat prescriptions.  For those that can use a computer or smartphone, this is likely to be the easiest way to request repeat medicines; alternatively the repeat request slip can be used.

We have leaflets within the practice that can help guide you through this process but will be moving to the new system of direct patient request over the next couple of months and thank you for your support.
